Where it grows

Region Nuwara Eliya District, Central Highlands, Sri Lanka
Altitude 1,868 metres
Climate Cool, misty mornings, mineral-rich acidic soil
Grade FOP1 (Flowery Orange Pekoe 1) — whole leaf, hand-picked

Nuwara Eliya sits at 1,868 metres in Sri Lanka's central highlands. The temperature drops at night. Mist rolls through the hills every morning and does not leave until noon. These conditions slow everything down. The tea plant grows at half the speed it would at lower altitude.

Known as the Champagne region of Ceylon tea, Nuwara Eliya produces some of the lightest, most aromatic black teas in the world.

About this tea

Nuwara Eliya FOP1 — High-Grown Ceylon Black Tea

A light and aromatic whole-leaf black tea from Nuwara Eliya, one of Sri Lanka’s renowned high-grown tea regions.

Unlike fuller and more strongly tannic black teas, this FOP1 offers a clear amber cup with floral aromas, gentle muscatel sweetness and a clean finish. Its refined character makes it enjoyable without milk and suitable for drinkers who prefer a lighter style of black tea.

  • Tea type: Black tea
